With the tax incentives offered by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, many solar installers and designers will be looking for ways to increase the credits of their projects. There are a few bonus “adders” for projects that meet certain criteria such as prevailing wages, domestic content, and siting in “energy communities”.

30% Investment Tax Credit

The investment tax credit has been increased to 30% for business and residential projects. This includes projects installed in 2022 and will last until 2032.

The existing Investment Tax Credit will be transformed starting in 2025 to include a much broader credit that applies to not only solar but other technologies that reduce emissions.

10% Domestic Content Adder*

Projects can increase their tax credit from 30% to 40% by fulfilling the Domestic Content Requirement. This 10% bonus credit is for solar arrays with at least 40% of components manufactured in the USA. The steel and iron used here must be 100% made in the USA.
